Although we were not able to make it all the way around Lake Michigan due to the accident at Antrim County Airport, the trip up until that point was fantastic. The first day, we enjoyed a 30 mph tailwind that pushed our ground speeds past 100 MPH ! After stopping at Benton Harbor Mi. for lunch, we encountered exciting and challenging weather conditions as we attempted to continue up the coast. Finally, we managed to arrive at White Cloud Mi. (our final destination for that day) at about 6 PM. That evening and all the next day we enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of Jim Wolak at his private lakeside mansion. Beautiful babes abounded as we frolicked in Diamond Lake with Jim's jet ski and speedboat. Even Kevin's encounter with the local water police provided entertainment for all! Leon spent the whole day speeding around the lake on the jet ski and really enjoyed himself.
Monday, eight intrepid airmen continued Northward on a quest to blaze a trail of adventure across Michigan. After a couple of stops for gas, we arrived at Antrim County Airport for lunch. After a chauffeured ride to a mountain top resort for a sumptuous feast, we returned to the adulation of the local populace and delt with an anxious news media demanding news of our trip and personal interviews. We graciously agreed to a group photo around the airport sign and prepared to continue on our way. Our last stop for the day would be Harbor Springs, only 25 miles away. Unfortunately, we all didn't make it and we decided to return to Illinois. The flight back was also beautiful but we lacked the enthusiasm we started with.
We returned home on Wednesday to attend the wake and funeral for our dear departed friend.
